welcome

Whether you are exploring your beliefs, seeking a place to belong, or looking to deepen your relationship with God, you are welcome here. Join us as we set our minds on higher things and grow together in faith, hope, and love.

About us

We are a community of diverse people from across Hobart and beyond, who believe in, and are following Jesus together. To live out His message means we care about the people and place where we live. We encourage each other to follow Jesus' teachings and work together to make a positive difference.

Jesus taught a lot about faith, and living a life in relationship with God. This is what we encourage each other to do. If you want to explore what life is about – we would love to support you in doing that. Hope to meet you soon.

What we Believe

God

We believe Jesus is who he says he is, and that no one comes to God as Father, but through Him (John 14:6). We believe there is only one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

The Bible

We believe the Bible is God’s Holy Word and is therefore applicable to our everyday lives.

Salvation

We believe sin has separated each of us from God and His purpose for our lives. We believe that in order to receive forgiveness we must repent of our sins, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and submit to His will for our lives.

  Leadership team

  • Warren Young - Pastor

Warren, Bren, Regan and Emma touched down at Hobart airport in March 2023. Our pastoral family hails from South Africa where Warren has led churches in the role of senior pastor since 2010.

Besides his great love for ministry, Warren also loves being a family man. Bren also shares Warren’s love for the church and every precious person that has been led to call Howrah Church of Christ home. Regan (12) loves all things cars (the faster the better) and Emma has a real soft spot for animals (especially the cuddly ones).

Above all this family loves Jesus more than words can say. We look forward to the wonderful work that the Lord is about to do and the lives that will be touched through this loving pastoral family.

  • Joni Galbraith - Pastoral care

Joni arrived in Tasmania from Western Australia and joined our church in 2013, becoming an elder in 2019. She is on the pastoral care team and spends time visiting and caring for people from the church and community.

  • Geoff Morffew - Finance

Geoff has served on the eldership team since 2013. Previously an auditor in the Tasmanian Audit Office, he is our church treasurer, and also leads a weekly home group.
